Eye Tests at Schools
What we do
- We set up our mobile optometry clinic on site at schools in Sydney to provide eye testing services.
- The eye tests are bulk billed to Medicare, so there is no cost for the student, parent/caregiver, staff and school.
-
We service primary schools, high schools, private schools, schools for specific purposes (SSPs) and childcares.
- Our on site eye tests can be conducted in our clinical van, a room of the school’s choice or both!
- We work in consideration to the school’s schedule so there is minimal interruption to the students’ and teachers’ class time.
What the eye test at school involves
- Our Australian accredited optometrists conduct comprehensive eye tests to check a student’s vision status, binocular vision, colour vision and eye health. This includes detecting other eye conditions such as squint and amblyopia in children.
- A personalised eye test report for each student is provided for the parent/caregiver.
- Our experienced optical dispensers help the students choose from our large range of kids frames for the best style and fit, if they require glasses.
- Our qualified orthoptist identifies the students that are struggling with their binocular vision and discusses with the parents/carers if it is recommended for them to participate in our vision therapy programs.

Why we do eye tests at school
- We understand how daunting it can be for some kids to be in a medical clinic, so we’ve made eye checks super fun! When we’re here, it’s an event that we leave them talking about for weeks!
- Good vision is essential to a child’s educational, social and physical development. However, approximately 1 in 5 children have undetected vision problems, so it is important to have routine eye checks to detect and manage any problems early on.
- We know how precious your time is, so we save you the trouble from finding an optometrist to book in, taking your family there, selecting glasses and coming back to pick up any glasses order. We handle everything to make it convenient for you!
Why we offer vision therapy services
- Vision therapy is very important because clear eyesight alone does not guarantee proper visual function.
- Our accredited orthoptist conducts comprehensive eye muscle and binocular vision testing to assess how well the eyes work together. This is not always done in-depth at a routine eye test.
- Symptoms of binocular issues may show up as poor reading comprehension, avoidance of near tasks, behavioural concerns and/or attention disorders.
- If not detected early and treated, their condition may follow them into adulthood where it becomes more challenging. Treatment generally has better success in school-aged kids as the muscles are still flexible.
